Germany’s Nicolas Limbach to join Madrid World Cup tomorrow – Fencing News
Germany’s Nicolas Limbach has been given a good-to-go sign by his doctors for participating in the Men’s Sabre World Cup in Madrid, Spain from today.
The 2009 Champion will be able to join up, as he carries an automatic bye into the Top-64 Tableau of the Olympic Qualifier.
The 25-year-old failed to complete his last appearance in Athens 14 days ago, due to a muscle injury in his right thigh. Though not completely healed, he has been allowed to take part in the World Cup.
However, he will not be taking part in the individual event and only participate with the rest of his three German companions in the team competition at the Villa de Madrid 2011.
Before leaving from the capital Dormagen, the sabre runner-up seemed optimistic and said, "Fortunately it was only a minor muscle tear. Of course it is still not 100 percent healed, but I am optimistic that the thigh has."
He believed that two weeks were not enough for his training however a six-hour-a-week physiotherapy helped quite well.
"A single victory for me is not necessarily in the foreground. Our goal is that we are the team for Olympic qualifying round. Therefore, the team has absolute priority. If it does not work, I will not fight,” added Limbach.
He believed that topping the world ranking was enough to prove his abilities. Therefore, he will not risk his condition at any cost but will go by the instructions of the medical staff. Moreover, if it does not work for him, he will prefer cheering his team
for a win.
The National coach Vilmos Szabo stated that the German team is currently at the fourth position in the current world ranking and they will need to end up fifth to qualify for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
With this achievement in hand, Germany will have three individual fencers qualified for the individual competition.
The World Cup is currently underway at the Centro Deportivo Municipal Barajas and the first day features just the individual pool rounds until the Top-64 Tableau.
