Germinating Seeds In Water?

Would fruit seeds germinate if i placed them in a bottle of distilled water and exposed them to sunlight for a period of time? If so, which ones? If not, what are some easy ways to germinate them along with what are some easy seeds to germinate? Thanks!

  1. you would be better off folding a paper towel into fourths and putting the seeds between the first and second layer, then get the towel wet every day.  I have grown lots of plants from seeds this way, it works very well.


  2. Very unlikely. Seeds, like all plants, need to breathe. They need oxygen. They are likely to drown and then rot if you submerge them in water. Also, many seeds germinate better in the dark - sunlight is NOT required. You would be better putting the seeds on a wad of permanently damp paper towel in a warm dark place.

    Easy seeds to germinate are peas, beans, lettuce, radish.
