Question:

Geroge Brett Pinetar Incident?

If many of you do not know, yesterday was the 25th anniversary of the infamous George Brett pinetar incident. What happened was that Brett hit a homer for the Royals against the Yankees. Manager Billy Martin came out to observe the bat and inspect the amount of pinetar on it. Apparently, there was more than there could have been and Brett was called out, and Brett didn't take it too well.

My question is have the rules changed since then? Have they stayed the same? Any chance of seeing something like this again?

  1. I thought that MLB outlawed pine tar all together because of that incident.

We probably wont ever see that again but that might have been the only time that we didn't need instant replay ever in MLB.

  2. not gonna see it again, with batting gloves becoming more sophisticated and useful, not many players use pine tar anymore, they need to worry about the bat breaking nowadays, not holding on to it.

  3. the rules have not changed it is as follows no foreign substance no more than 18 inches from the k**b so the umps used the plate which is 17 inches wide as a guage. It could happen again, for Billy Martin to ask the umps to check his bat is genius.

  4. The rules have stayed the same, but the umpires have been instructed to use judgement as to whether or not the batter gets a competitive advantage.  No advantage, it does not matter.
