Steven Gerrard has obviously been inspirational for Liverpool over the last decade – he is, undoubtedly, one of the finest players in their history. However, he has never been able to replicate his superb form for England and has always been a more peripheral figure. So, perhaps he wouldn’t be the ideal choice if John Terry is sacked as captain.
