The 32-year old is set to reach another milestone in his illustrious career on Wednesday, by making his 100th international appearance for England against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sweden-c3015 at Stockholm.
By doing so, he will become only the sixth player in the country’s history to have achieved the feat. Peter Shilton currently holds the record with 125 caps.
While speaking to the media on the subject, the talismanic midfielder revealed that he was both excited and nervous ahead of the game against Sweden.
He said that he was wary of the fact that he will be under the gaze of the fans and the media on Wednesday – something which he admitted made him a bit jittery.
“I'm excited. I'm slightly nervous, which I haven't been for quite a while in an England shirt, maybe because there is a bit more attention on me getting to the milestone,” he told the reporters.
Gerrard, who has won scores of accolades with Liverpool, was once considered by many as the best player in England. Although Gerrard might not be as good as he once used to be, the Liverpool legend insisted that he has got no plans of calling it quits to his career.
The 32-year old claim that he can still prove to be of value for his country and was satisfied with his recent form.
“I don't feel as if I am coming to the end. I'm really happy where I am at the moment and really happy with my form in an England shirt. I'm certainly looking forward to helping this team qualify for the World Cup,” he added.
