Following his decision to decamp from Anfield, the Reds skipper Gerrard lauded the services which Kuyt had rendered for Liverpool, and mentioned that he will always be remembered by his peers and the fans for everything that he had given to the club.
While talking to reporters, he said: “Dirk is a great player, a great person and was a great servant to Liverpool.”
“From the first day he came to the club, he was someone you could trust and knew that he would never let you down on the pitch.”
Kuyt made his Premier League debut for Liverpool in 2006 against West Ham United. Despite failing to secure a regular place in the Reds starting eleven during the 2011/12 campaign, he played an important hand in his side’s accomplishments in the domestic
cup competitions, scoring a goal in the final of the Carling Cup in February and also a winner against Manchester United in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Gerrard believed that Kuyt’s scalp against Cardiff City in the League Cup final was probably the highlight of his career, but felt that irrespective of his crucial hand in helping the Reds end their six year title drought, he will be remembered for his overall
contributions during his career.
He added, “I know how much scoring against Cardiff in the League Cup final meant to him but he was already assured a part of the club's history even before helping win that trophy.”
He went on to say that Kuyt will be greatly missed by everyone at Liverpool and offered him his best wishes with his future endeavours.
