Liverpool and England skipper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196, has no qualms that Raheem Sterling will soon establish himself as a regular in the national team.
The 17-year old came into prominence this season, after being introduced by new Anfield manager, Brendan Rodgers. The Northern Irishman has shown no reluctance in calling in the club’s academy players and has, so far, reaped the reward for his gutsy approach
with Sterling.
His impressive start to the season at Liverpool earned him an international call up earlier in October. This week, he featured in the Three Lions 4-2 defeat at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sweden-c3015 at the Friends Arena. However, he did not have the best of games, committing
a costly error early on which resulted in the hosts’ opening goal.
Gerrard, nonetheless, was eager to ignore his blunder, comparing it to his overall performance this season.
The veteran English footballer underlined that the winger had just started with his career and he will only improve with time. He also said that a lot of 17-year olds in the country can only dream about representing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 and revealed that he, himself,
was ‘cleaning boots’ in the dressing room at that age.
“When I was 17, I was an apprentice at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 cleaning boots in the changing room. It goes to show how far he has come in a short space of time,” he told the reporters.
“He put his mistake behind him. It’s a learning curve. If there is one positive from making a mistake, it’s a friendly match and it doesn’t hurt you that much.”
“He will learn from that. He has learnt really quickly in a Liverpool shirt and he will do the same for England.”
Sterling, who started his football career at the tender age of 10 in the Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 youth academy, was brought in to Liverpool by former manager, Rafa Benitez, back in 2010. After making his Premier League debut last season, the winger caught the
fast lane into the team’s regular eleven. He has already capped 17 appearances for the Reds this term, but has only managed a single goal.
