http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 has claimed that the England squad has been lifted by the presence of the in-form Reds striker Andy Carroll, and believed that he can make a massive impact for the Three Lions in the Euro 2012 competition next month.
England will be without the services of their main striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-Welbeck-c10233 upfront in the absence of the Manchester United’s ace.
Gerrard, who has been asked to lead the national team by Hodgson, felt that England will have a chance to end their major cup drought if Carroll is able to carry his sublime form at Liverpool in the European Championships.
He told the club’s official website, “If Andy was to bring his form for Liverpool over the last couple of months to the international stage; it would be a big plus.”
The 31-year old also labelled the brand of football on display from the sturdy striker in the closing stages of the Premier League season as ‘unplayable’, and thought that he can wreak havoc with defences when he is on song.
Carroll, who arrived at Anfield from Newcastle United in January last year, finished his dismal 2011/12 campaign on a high and the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 skipper believed that the striker has finally started to live up to his expectations.
He continued, “That's the reason we signed him because we saw some of that at Newcastle. He's come into form and, if he can maintain that, it can only be a positive for the national team.”
The 23-year old remained at the receiving end of some harsh criticism, alongside the club’s other new signings, for failing to justify their expensive price tags.
However, Gerrard revealed that Carroll has finally started to settle down at Liverpool, and silenced a lot of critics with his sensational finish to the season. He went on to say that it was still early days for him at the Merseyside club and he will only
improve with the passage of time.
He added, “He took a bit of criticism this season, but you've got to understand he is still a baby in terms of his age as a footballer.”
