http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 believes that two titles will reflect a successful season for the Reds, and will set the tone nicely for them in the next season.
The Reds Premier League standing is in sharp contrast with their performance in the English cup competitions, as they are currently lying at the eighth place in the league table, three points behind their local rivals http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043. Even though they have registered
a place in the Europa League next season by winning the Carling Cup in February, they have now failed to qualify for the Champions League for the third successive season.
Nevertheless, the English International admitted his side’s shortcomings in the league, but believed that a win against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 in the FA Cup final will take the pressure of them at the end.
While talking to reporters, he said: “We will assess the season and if we win two trophies, I think it would alleviate the pressure slightly.”
Liverpool lost 1-0 to Fulham on Tuesday, which was their first ever defeat at Anfield at the hands of the Cottagers. In total, they have managed 49 points out of their 36 league games and trail the fourth placed team in the table by 16 points.
However, Gerrard felt that the FA Cup win can mark the beginning of something special for the Reds in the next season, as they have some world class players in their dugout.
He remarked, “We hope it can kick-start us for next season. We are all aware we have underachieved in the league and the squad of players is certainly better than where we are.”
The Reds last won the FA Cup in 2006 when they beat West Ham United in the final on a penalty shoot-out. Their League Cup win in February was their first title in almost six years.
“People will judge us after Saturday. People will say, ‘You haven’t done well in the league,’ but we can say, ‘Yes, but we have won two cups.’ I think that’s a fair argument.” He added.
Liverpool will play the final against Chelsea on the 5th of May at the new Wembley stadium.
