The Liverpool FC skipper is confident that his side will end the season with a place in Europe, given they continue their current form
The Merseyside Reds have been in prime form recently and are heading towards a place in Europe at the end of the season. The side downed Tottenham Hotspur this past weekend with a 3-2 scoreline with Luis Suarez, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stewart-Downing-c34221
and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 to sixth place on the Premier League standings table.
Gerrard claimed that a club of the stature of Liverpool should definitely be playing in Europe every season. He stated that the team has been playing well of late and wants the players to continue with their form for the remaining
course of the season also.
The skipper stressed that the team will gain a lot of confidence after beating Spurs at home so the team needs to continue playing well.
“Liverpool don't belong in seventh, eighth or ninth in the table, we want to push for the European places year after year. Hopefully, it's not too late but we will need to produce the perfect finish to sneak in the back door. The
result and performance against Spurs will give us great confidence and belief,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, the midfielder is gunning for a place in the top five in the Premier League. He admitted that if Liverpool continue to play in the way they are, a place in the top five is a certainty.
“The top five places are the target. Let's see what happens in other big games that are not in our control. Hopefully, the teams above us will slip up. All we can control is our performances and our consistency and finish strong,”
he concluded.
Steven Gerrard has played every minute of the league campaign this season and has scored eight times in the 28 games he has taken part. The captain also has nine assists in the league and has been an inspirational leader for the
Reds in this campaign. Liverpool will next face Southampton in their next Premier League game this weekend.
