An independent panel, formed to investigate the reasons behind the calamity which occurred in 1989, revealed its findings on Wednesday.
According to its report, the earlier claims of the police and the authorities, accusing the fans for triggering the stampede, where cooked up by them to cover-up their own negligence and faults in the incident.
The latest discovery from the panel has taken the entire Britain by the storm. The families of the victims had been trying to plead their case for the last 23 years, accusing the police stationed at the Sheffield stadium as being responsible for the accident. However, until now, the authorities kept a blind eye towards them, pinning the blame on some drunken fans with criminal records for creating chaos in the terrace-stand.
The Liverpool stalwart, who lost his 10-year old cousin Jon-Paul in the accident, lashed out at the police for tampering with the facts and truth to save their own skin.
He underscored that all the families of the victims have been going through an emotional nightmare since this enormous tragedy befell on them, and their plight was further exacerbated by the dishonest attitude of the authorities.
“Speaking as someone whose family directly suffered, I know the pain and hurt will remain. However, I hope that today’s report helps bring some comfort, now that everyone knows what happened on that day.” he told the reporters in an interview.
Meanwhile, the chairman of Liverpool, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tom-c35214 Werner, has also expressed his shock over the contents of the reports released by the investigation team. Nonetheless, he felt that justice was finally served to the grief-stricken families of the deceased, and was glad that the truth was finally out.
“We hope that today’s findings will give some comfort to the families and survivors and go some way to addressing some of the key questions that have hung over the Hillsborough tragedy for the last 23 years,” he said.
The Hillsborough disaster remains to this date, Britain’s worst stadium-related accident. 96 people lost their lives in the tragedy, while scores of others sustained injuries.
