Liverpool skipper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 revealed that he will extend his full support and co-operation to Roberto Martinez, if the Wigan Athletic boss goes on to get the management job at Anfield.
The 38-year old Spaniard is considered as the hot-favourite to take over the managerial hot seat at the Merseyside club, after scores of potential candidates turned down the Reds offer for the post.
Martinez, who helped the Latics fight off a relegation threat in the recently concluded 2011/12 campaign, has reportedly met the Liverpool owners in Miami to discuss the subject of his appointment, and has been tipped by many pundits and experts to become
the next boss at Anfield.
Gerrard, the recently appointed skipper of the national side, mentioned that he was aware of the developments being made over the matter of selection of the new manager, and that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684.
While talking to reporters, he said: “I am aware that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Martinez has spoken to the club and everything I've heard about the guy has been good and positive.”
“We'll have to wait and see what the club decide, but if he is the manager he's certainly got my full support.”
Gerrard, who is currently working under the management of the former Reds boss Roy Hodgson in the English team, also heaped praise on the 64-year old despite his beleaguered brief spell at Anfield. He was of the opinion that the fans and the supporters wanted
to see the Liverpool icon Kenny Dalglish as the manager at that time, which resulted in his acrimonious exit from the club last year.
However, the midfielder termed the England boss as a ‘terrific’ manager and backed him to do a good job with the Three Lions.
Hodgson named 4 http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ukraine-c3032, including the sturdy striker Andy Carroll. The move was welcomed by Gerrard who felt that the English International can prove to be a big bonus
for the national team given his remarkable late form at Liverpool.
He added, “He’s been unplayable for us. It's good to see in a Liverpool player, and I hope he can reproduce that form for England because, if he does, he'll be a big bonus for the country. Defence finds him very difficult to play against.”
The 23-year old Carroll featured in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Norway-c2974 on Saturday, which was Hodgson’s debut win as the manager of the Three Lions. Even though he failed to find the back of the net, the lofty striker repeatedly posed problems for the Norwegian
defence when playing the ball in the air, and came inches close of scoring a goal from a header in the opening stages of the game.
