Liverpool’s inspirational skipper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 has termed Kenny Dalglish as his idol, and revealed that he was deeply aggrieved to hear the news of his sacking by the club’s owners on Wednesday.
The 61-year old Scott was relieved of his managerial duties by the club’s American based owners Fenway Sports Group, following the Reds eighth-place finish in their recently concluded 2011/12 league campaign.
The English International, who has always remained a big admirer of Dalglish, acknowledged the services that the Scott had rendered for Liverpool and mentioned that he has had a major influence on his career.
Gerrard became the skipper of the Merseyside team in October 2003 and is considered as one of the greatest Liverpool players of all times. He has capped 577 appearances for the Reds in all competitions, and guided them to Champions League glory in 2005.
He told the reporters, “I am very sad to see Kenny leave our club. He is my idol and will always be my idol and I would like to express my thanks and appreciation for what he has done for my career.”
The news of the Scott’s ouster from Anfield came on the same day when England’s manager Roy Hodgson appointed Gerrard as the skipper of the national squad for the Euro 2012 tournament.
And the 31-year old admitted that he went through a roller-coaster of emotions upon receiving both the news, but indicated that he was looking forward towards leading his side in the European competition.

Gerrard also vowed to build on the foundations laid down by Dalglish at Anfield during his 18th month stint at the Merseyside club. He also felt that Liverpool will be a much better side in the next term, and was eager to take the club forward
under the new management.
He continued, “We will look to build on the progress of the last 18 months and be competitive at the business end of the Premier League.”
