http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 thinks his side performed rather well in the Euro 2012, despite being knocked out of the competition in the quarter finals.
The Three Lions kicked things off by drawing their opening game with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899, following a one all draw.
Following that game, the team took on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Theo-Walcott-c34873 in the second half, where he scored one and helped create another goal.
In their last group game, they went on to beat http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 marking his return to the team, with a goal.
England managed to end the group stages by being placed in the top spot of their group. As a result, they were paired up against Italy in the quarter final stage of the competition.
The quarter final stage proved to be rather tricky for the Three Lions, as they failed to find the back of the net in a hundred and twenty minutes of playing time. The team was also unusually lucky to survive 120 minutes without conceding a goal, considering
how Italy struck the post on a number of occasions.
With the penalty shootout almost always proving to be a hurdle for England, this time around the case was no different.
Following a nail biting shoot out, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 went on to win by four goals to two and as  a result, the Three Lions were sent crashing out of the competition.
However, Gerrard feels that his team did rather good and when talking about their performance in the competition, the England captain went on to state: "I think the supporters will agree with me that we have played for the shirt"

"We’ve given a lot of effort out there, but it’ll be mixed because we’ve gone out in the quarter-final again to a penalty shoot-out so we are all hurt and disappointed.”

"I think if you look at the big picture from how we’ve done from when we met up four or five weeks ago, everyone has given it their best shot."
England weren’t given a lot of time to work with Roy Hodgson before the start of the contest, but given the fact that they made it to the quarter finals is rather astonishing.
Should the team continue to progress under Hodgson, they could go on and do great things in the future.
