Nonetheless, Gerrard insisted that Cole was a vital part of the national team.

The 31-year old has so far capped 98 international appearances for England during his career. He represented the Three Lions in the 2002, 2006 and 2010 World Cups and has ever remained a regular starting-choice in the team.
Meanwhile, England manger, Roy Hodgson, has said that he won’t give in to any pressure from the FA over the matter of the player’s selection in the team.
He insisted that his row with the FA had been settled and it was time that everyone put the whole incident to bed.
“The chairman made his views very clear. I've been allowed to concentrate on football and to work with Ashley on the field. That is all,” he added.
The defender has not started for England in the last four international matches, with the manager opting to go with Baines in his place.
