http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gervinho-c14755 has gone on to claim that he wants to have the same impact on the team that Robert Pires had, while hoping for him to be more successful at the North London club.
The Frenchman spent six years with Arsenal, during which he helped the team win two Premier League trophies and three FA Cups. At the same time, he was part of the squad, when they reached the finals of the UEFA Champions League in 2006.
Gervinho insisted that he could use the example of Pires and develop himself in the Arsenal set up, while improving his performances in the coming weeks.
"http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robert-c31222 [Pires] is a fantastic player, very experienced, and I saw this for myself [when he was] training here,” he told
Arsenal Player.
"I really hope to emulate Robert Pires in my second season, hopefully do even better, but I hope to carve out my own niche of course.”
"I hope to push on personally, also to progress with the team and to showcase my qualities. I've learnt lots of things, coming to a new club, being new to the Premier League. I've learnt to adapt on the pitch and, when I think back, also in front of goal.”
"I really feel that I've come on a lot, I feel really good in training and I'm ready for my second season."
Gervinho didn’t have the best of seasons last time around and despite him scoring a few goals and picking up some assists, he seemed to be largely lacking in the final third.
However, this time around things could be greatly different for the attacker. In pre season, Gervinho looked rather sharp and looked to be a player, who could easily make the difference for the Gunners this coming season.
In the season opener, he didn’t manage to score a goal, or pick up an assist, but he looked more composed and solid on the pitch, then he did last season.
Should he continue to move forward from here on, he could easily go on and become one of the most important players at the team, who could help them win a trophy or two.
