This was a welcome win for Gescrap as after starting the Euroleague quest in style by routing Olympiacos, they were handed three consecutive defeats and to keep their chances of reaching top 16 alive, they needed to win this encounter.
Brose Baskets dominated the game throughout but Caja were never out of it. In fact, a quick burst from them midway through the last quarter took them ahead of their opponents (79-74) and it looked like they would run away with
the show. However an outstanding 11 point run in the crucial time again shifted the momentum towards Gescrap.
Kostas Vasiliadis was the star for the winning team with 21 points on a perfect including 3 for 3 shooting from downtown and 6 for 6 from the free throw line. He was assisted well by Alex Mumbru, who chipped in with his 14 points,
3 rebounds and 2 assists. Marko Banic, who played a pivotal role in their first win of the tournament, was also impressive and accumulated 12 points on 6 for 7 shooting from the paint. D’OR Fischer putting up an all round show also ended with 10 points and
7 rebounds.
Gescrap’s head coach Fotios Katsikaris thrilled with his team’s performance in the all important game’
“It is a great achievement for us. We talked a lot over the last days, after the last losses. We needed something like this to prove ourselves. I think we are on the right track, we improved details, improved confidence and all
of that allowed us to win tonight. We beat a great team, with much more experience in the Euroleague than we have. I have to congratulate the guys for the job tonight. We stayed positive”
Mirza Teletovic, who is having a dream run so far in the league, was yet again the most dominant player from Caja Laboral and in the game as a whole, finishing with mammoth 26 points on a 9 for 13 from the glass. He also grabbed
