Gescrap Brose Basket stun Caja Laboral 89-84: Euroleague Recap (Part 2)
Kostas Vasiliadis started the proceedings through a jumper. He was followed Roger Grimau and Marko Manic, both of whom slipped in driving layup to earn Gescrap a 6-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game.
Mirza Teletovic then drilled a three to cut the deficit however it was answered immediately by a downtown strike from Kostas.
Fischer and Marko however continued the onslaught and kept chipping in with points to keep their team ahead. By the 8th minute, Gescrap were leading by 9 points 20-11 when Aaron Jackson scored from the free throw line. Mumbru Alex and Teletovic fought hard to slash the lead by scoring in quick succession and managed to bring the scores close. But, a three-pointer in the dying moments of the quarter by Aaron ensured Gescrap entered the second quarter with a healthy lead of 8 points, 25-17.
The first two minutes of the next quarter were devoid of any fireworks as both teams failed to find the basket. Pau Ribas ended the drought by scoring through a wild dunk.
The scoring rate from both teams improved considerably in the next five minutes but unfortunately for Caja, they never quite managed to reduce the deficit. A three by Roger Grimau in the 9th minute elevated Gescrap’s lead to 10 points, 41-31. Teletovic however jumped to the rescue again and scored 5 points in succession to make sure Gescrap don’t completely run away with the show.
By the end of first half, Caja were trailing by 5 points 41-36.
That lead was however short lived as San Emeterio and Pablo combined to score 5 and tied the score at 43 early in the second half. A deadlock ensued in the minutes that followed. Midway through the third quarter, Pablo knocked down a three to take Caja ahead by 1 point, 51-50, however Gescrap again scored in quick succession and regained the lead. By the end of third quarter, Gescrap found themselves ahead by 4 points 66-62.
Caja displayed brilliant offense in the first 5 minutes of the last and the deciding quarter and not only managed to cut Gescrap’s lead but diverted the momentum to their side after acquiring a 4 point lead 75-71.
Brose baskets were not done yet though and after Caja had extended their lead to 79-76 going into the last two minutes, they reeled off a magnificent 13-5 point run to steal the show.
