Question:

Gestational sac and thickening of womb found but low hcg

I had an internal scan on Friday, and a gestational sac was located, plus thickening of the womb.

I have been having loads of pregnancy symptoms, such as sore b*****s, frequent toilet visits, changes in my b*****s, including clear fluid leaking from my nipples when i have a hot bath, i have also had nausea, and extreme tiredness, but my period is not due until Wednesday. (2 days)

I have had bloods taken, and my HCG level from Friday is 0.1, which doesn't indicate a pregnancy, although the nurse did say that it may be too early. I had another blood test taken this morning, and will ring the hospital later on for the results. Urine tests are also negative.

How can a gestational sac be present with low HCG?

The first day of my last period was the 10th of July, and my Husband and i had s*x on the 23rd, 24th, and 25th of July.

I don't seem to be getting any answers, and feel so frustrated.

I am not getting any of the premenstral signs that i usually get, such as bloating, eating copius amounts of chocolate and carbs, and i still have my wedding rings on, and they are quite loose. (Normally i have to remove them as my fingers swell up so much)

Can someone please advise?

I would appreciate genuine answers only, no smart **** comments at this difficult, and confusing time.

  1. I'm not aware of HCG levels being so low for a viable pregnancy, but you seem to have been tested v early.  Given your dates, I would think this week, round about 5th/6th Aug is the appropriate time for a blood test.  Implantation would be about a week ago, so I presume HCG levels need time to rise.

I've heard of HCG levels in the thousands in week 4, but also below 100.  But I agree with the other posters that 0.1 seems too low.

As you probably know, the question is whether the HCG levels keep rising.  if they don't, then it's probably not a viable pregnancy.  but fingers crossed

  2. This is really difficult to answer, I wouldn't have thought that a gestational sac could be present with such a low HCG but obviously if you and your husband both saw it, then it was there.

Is there any chance the first blood tests results could be wrong, or mixed up? I'm glad you're having a second set of results done, hopefully they will be different and give you more of a conclusive answer.

Please let us know what happens this afternoon when you get your results. I hope everything works out for you, and I'm really sorry that I can't give you a better and more helpful answer. *hugs*

  3. Wow hun I'm not sure what to say ,all i can think of is the blood test is wrong?

0.1 is not pregnant anything over 5 is 25 in the uk,

you are not supposed to see a sac until your levels have reached over 1000 HCG on a blood test,

Maybe the sonographer saw some thing that she thought was a sac and its not.

Wait for the blood results and post and good luck

  4. Wow, that is very confusing for both you and your huband. I would wait and see what happens with your blood work as I have never heard of anything like that. BEST OF LUCK!
