Get Insurance Company to Help?

My LASIK procedure is gonna cost around 4 grand per eye (custom LASIK), and I have a pretty comprehensive health insurance plan (federal government) which I am a dependent on. Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia. Is there any way to get them to help pay for the cost of LASIK? Any route that will help me? I really need LASIK as because of glasses and contacts I routinely get eye viruses, but my health insurance company doesnt believe it, even with a doctors notice (glasses cause my eyes to itch etc.) Please help me!

Yeah, LASIK isn't going to be covered. I'm confused as to why glasses and contacts give you eye viruses? Are you washing your contacts correctly?

There are many types of glasses that you can buy. There are some that weigh practically nothing! They shouldn't cause irritation.

And, when you think about it in the grand scheme of things, it's good they don't pay for LASIK. It's one more "unnecessary" thing to raise the cost of health insurance. I'm sorry there's no answer to what you want.

I have never heard of any insurance company paying for that procedure, but I'm not up to date on that.  I know people who have had it done and it was not covered.  If a doctor give you a prescription and they are denying it, I'm not sure what else can be done.  Keep trying??  good luck.

I've worn glasses my entire life, and have never gotten an eye virus from them.  

You're not going to get help with LASIK - it's not medically necessary.

I actually work with the federal employees insurance. It is specifically listed that LASIK and INTACS are not covered in your benefits under vision. When it says that, there is no getting around it.
