Get Serious adds class to the El Prado Stakes
James Dinan and the Phantom House Farm’s Get Serious and Jules Boutelle and Resolute Group Stables’s Teaks North will add a bit of class to the $75,000 El Prado Stakes at Gulfstream Park to be decided over 1 mile on turf.
The race will be held on 22 December, 2012, and he 1 mile test has reeled in a field of 14, 3-year-old and above colts and geldings plus two also-eligibles.
Get Serious and Teaks North come into the El Prado Stakes as two millionaires. Teaks North’s major claim to fame is winning two Grade 1 races, including the Grade 1 United Nations Stakes last year in July at Monmouth Park, and Get Serious is famous for winning
the Monmouth Park’s Grade 3 Red Bank Stakes for the past thereof the last four running of the 1 mile contest.
Registered as a New York bred, the John H. Forbes trained 8-year-old gelding, Get Serious, has majority of his starts at New Jersey, predominantly at Monmouth Park, and he has banked more than $1.2 million for his connections.
Though in the El Prado Stakes, Get Serious will run under the name of trainer John Forbes long time assistant Pat McBurney in the Gulfstream Park’s winter meet. Get Serious is also under the care of Pat McBurney, who had been with Fobres for more than 30
years.
“John bought this horse as a yearling at Timonium and we’ve had him ever since,” said McBurney. “Although he is a New York-bred, he’s had so much success since the new Monmouth turf course came in he really never had to leave home much after that. We usually
turn him out during the winter, but he missed some potential starts during the latter part of the fall because of weather so John decided to send him down here and give him a try.”
Pat McBurney is confident of Get Serious’ chances in the El Prado Stakes, and despite a torrid run in recent races, the assistant believes that the 8-year-old gelded son of Cit Zip hasn’t lost too many steps.
He is currently coming off a third place finish in the Grade 3 Cliff Hanger at Monmouth Park.
