Get Serious returns to winning form in the Red Bank Stakes at Monmouth Park
Get Serious really got down to business and returned to his winning ways when he defended his title, and redeemed himself in the Grade 3, $100,000 Red Bank Stakes at Monmouth Park on 4th July, 2012.
With rider, Pablo Fragoso, on his back, the chestnut gelding dominated the one mile track and broke through the wire first by a narrow margin of half-length ahead of the Gregory A. Griffith trained, El Commodore, while Queen'splatekitten finished third,
1 ¼ lengths behind the runner-up.
With the victory, the John Forbes trained runner has regained the confidence of his connections. The trainer told the media that the runner had it in him all along, the fact that he won the race speaks for itself, he said:
"We thought he was going to be back to himself this year and he's proved it."
John Forbes further added: "We were concerned when he was getting pushed a little for most of the way, but he's as game as they get. As he's gotten older, he's learned to relax more when there's a horse on his flank."
The son of City Zip, out of mare Java Gal, broke swiftly, and he downed the opening quarter mile marker in 23.23 seconds, half mile in 46.76 seconds, and six furlongs in 1 minute and 9.09 seconds, while he covered the race distance in 1 minute and 32.63
seconds.
Pablo Fragoso was tremendously pleased with the way the race turned out, and he greatly appreciated the effort of the eight-year-old gelding as he said:
"We talked about it before the race, and we knew the horse on the outside (El Commodore) had speed, but not our type of speed."
The rider also added that: “He battled back like he always does."
Owned by Jacques J. Moore of Hampshire Farms, Get Serious previously won this race on 5th September, 2010, where he managed to defeat the Patrick Biancone trained, Nownownow, in 1 minute and 32.37 seconds.
It is definitely nice to see the older division runner return to his winning form, it has not been decided where he will race next, but this victory has gotten some people’s hopes up about his future.
