Get Stormy back after a short lay off to defend his Bernard Baruch title at Saratoga
The Sullimar Stable homebred, Get Stormy, has entered the Grade 2 $200,000 Bernard Baruch, a race the 5-year-old horse won back in 2010 at Saratoga on turf and he will be defending his title on 26 August, 2011, when he faces 10 rivals in the mildly pursed
1 1/8 mile event.
Trained by Thomas Bush, Get Stormy is the son of Stormy Atlantic out of Foolish Gal by Kiri’s Clown.
During the 2011 season, Get Stormy bagged a few important races and failed to deliver three times out of five starts this season.
His season opener was at Gulfstream Park, where he was participating in the Grade 3 Fort Lauderdale run over a distance of 1 1/16 miles on turf.
Get Stormy was the protagonist, who kicked off the race in fine style but was the first major player in the field to wilt.
Get Stormy rolled in way late to finish eighth on the day. Thomas Bush trained, Get Stormy, had to go through one more defeat to finally land a grade 1 race for the year 2011.
The defeat wasn’t as bad as the previous one as he finished third in the Grade 1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap.
Then came the moment of truth, the race which will put Get Stormy back on winning ways. From Churchill Downs to Gulfstream Park, Get Stormy was pointed at the Grade 1 Maker’s Mark Mile at Keeneland.
Under Javier Castellano, the veteran horse picked up his pace and stretched his body stride by stride to muscle through for his first win of the season on 15 April, 2011.
Usually one win comes after the other, and Get Stormy fresh off a convincing win at Keeneland, got back to Churchill Downs for the Grade 1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic over at 1 1/8 miles.
Under a new jockey in the shape of Ramon Dominguez, Get Stormy did not disappoint as he zoomed past Smart Bid and Doubles Partner to win back to back Grade 1 races.
Get Stormy is the 3 to 1 morning line favourite for the Bernard Baruch and will be carrying 122 pound, heavy weight.
Ramon Dominguez, riding Get Stormy, will break from post number 11 to take on 10 other foes for the defense of their title at Saratoga on 26 August.
