Get Stormy laid a serious move ahead of his 2012 debut
The newly turned Thomas M. Bush trained 6-year-old horse, Get Stormy, after being declared as the winning turf horse of 2011, is looking for his first start of the 2012 campaign, which is likely to come in the Grade 1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap on 11 February, 2012, at Gulfstream Park.
The multiple grade 1 winning horse turned in a five furlong workout, ahead of his 2012 debut at Palm Meadows on 24 January, 2012, and clocked the distance in 1 minute and 3.05 seconds.
Get Stormy was not alone on the track, as several other horses went out on the track for their morning workouts , when it got clear from heavy showers earlier in the day.
"It was a little bit of a fiasco with that rain, but he finished really well the last eighth," trainer Tom Bush said. "It's hard to get a read on it with the rain coming down."
The Sullimar Stables owned Get Stormy is exiting a disappointing 12th place finish in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile at Churchill Downs on 5 November, 2011.
Ridden by Garrett Gomez, the pair set out to conquer a mile over the venue’s turf course, but got beaten by Court Vision, who finished first, and the horse who followed him in second was Turallure, as Goldikova finished third on the day, while Get Stormy finished the one mile in 1 minute and 37.05 seconds.
The Kentucky bred son of Stormy Atlantic, out of mare Foolish Gal by Kiri’s Clown, Get Stormy had an excellent 2011 season, and if you take out the Breeders’ Cup defeat and the Grade 3 Fort Lauderdale’s eighth place finish, Get Stormy won two, and finished second and third twice, out of eight starts.
He won the Grade 1 Maker’s Mark Mile at Keeneland, and then immediately won the Grade 1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic at about 1 1/8 miles at Churchill Downs.
"I don't know what to tell you about the Breeders' Cup," Bush said. "He's only run two bad races his whole life, and both were in the Breeders' Cup."
Last year it was a dismal start to his campaign from Gulfstream Park, but this time around Bush is looking for a good start at the same venue .
