Get Stormy pointed toward Breeders’ Cup Mile, turns in a timely work at Keeneland before the big race
The Kentucky bred Get Stormy coming off a second place finish in the Grade 1 Shadwell Turf Mile behind Gio Ponti at Keeneland on 8 October, is now pointed toward the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile.
Staying at Keeneland, Sullimar Stable’s homebred Get Stormy turned in a lone work ahead of his Breeders’ Cup race on 26 October, at the Lexington track. The Breeders’ Cup Mile is to be held at Churchill Downs on 5 November, 2011.
Under the watchful eye of trainer Tom Bush, Get Stormy did 5 furlongs in 1 minute 4/5 seconds with exercise rider Javier Cabrera aboard.
The clocker’s at Lexington track recorded the brisk fractions made by Get Stormy, as he went the opening quarter mile in 25 1/5 seconds, speeded it up for the half mile marker which was recorded 49 2/5 seconds and finally the four-year-old horse galloped it out the rest of the distance in 1 minute and 14 3/5 seconds.
One of the note worthy performances for Get Stormy this season was in the Grade 1 Maker’s Mark Mile at Keeneland earlier this year in April, when he defeated Workin for Hops and Society’s Chairman over at a mile with the winning time of 1 minute and 37.31 seconds.
Right after the Maker’s Mark Mile, Get Stormy went all out in his next race which was also a grade 1 race.
In the Grade 1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic at Churchill Downs, Get Stormy stormed through his opponents to down Smart Bid and Doubles Partner to win the 1 1/8 mile race I 1 minute and 50.81 seconds.
At the Lexington track in Keeneland, Tom Bush was excited after Get Stormy’s workout and said that is what exactly they were looking from the experienced horse before the Breeders’ Cup.
His trainer’s aim was to make him finish strongly, and that is exactly what Get Stormy did, he pressed in the last quarter and zipped through the track to make it in 22 4/5 seconds.
Get Stormy is coming off two second place finishes in his last two stars, and would be expecting to give it a little extra in the final stages of that Breeders’ Cup race to convert second place finishes into victories.
