Get Stormy suffers a defeat as well as a cut to the right hind hock in Bernard Baruch
Get Stormy was set out to defend his title in the Grade 2 Bernard Baruch with chances high after a couple of grade 1 back to back wins, but only to come out of the Bernard Baruch second best and somewhat worse for wear, as the 5-year-old suffered with a
cut as a result of another horse clipping his heel.
It was 27 August, 2010, when Sullimar Stables owned and Thomas Bush trained, Get Stormy won the Bernard Baruch at Saratoga turf under jockey J Castellano.
This time around on 26 August, 2011, under a different but effective ride, Ramon Dominguez, Get Stormy was out to taste glory once again, but only to hit hard by reality when Turallure stuck his neck out and raced his heart out to win the 1 1/8 mile test.
It was a bad day turned worse, when it was realized that Get Stormy hasn’t come out of the race as he came in. Hard to put a finger on it, but someone during the clubhouse turn clipped and peeled the poor horse which left him in some discomfort.
Jockey Ramon Dominguez was the first one to point it out when he came back and wanted trainer Tom Bush to see the replay.
Before the incident, Get Stormy was on his way nice and relaxed, but after getting clipped on the heel, he got grabbed and didn’t look in control as if he just wanted it over.
Get Stormy, son of Stormy Atlantic out of Foolish Gal by Kiri’s Clown, is a millionaire and dual grade 1 winner, and he was contesting over the distance of 1 1/8 mile for the second time.
The older horse responded very well to take down Turallure at every point but misfortune struck and Get Stormy lot the plot, and if it hadn’t happened then Get Stormy would’ve nicked the race 9 times out of 10 after turning for home.
This year though, Get Stormy has bagged the Grade 1 Maker’s Mark Mile and next the Grade 1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic.
