My future-wife is Japanese, so how hard would it be to live there with her?

  1. Not very hard. But I think you have to get married within a certain time frame. Does she has a sister ? LOL. Just kidding.

  2. After all necessary official registration done, your wife can send you all cerfification to apply spouse visa  at Japanese embassy in your country. You can't go to live in Japan with your future-wife because any valid visa is unable to be issued so far. You may try to apply tourist visa instead but it is not spouse visa at all.

  3. Very easy (compared to getting a green card in the states). As soon as you are married, it takes the usual paper work such as marriage license, birth certificates (or in your wife's case, her Koseki or family registry which should also have your marriage recorded on it), photos, passport (for them to stamp) and various forms you have to fill out. There is also a small fee. You will also need a letter from your in-laws or someone close to your wife in Japan to act as a type of guarantor that they know you as being of good character and that you will be supported while you are living in Japan. The Japanese embassy, immigration office (if you are in Japan) or Consulate should be able to provide you with all the information. Once you have a spouse visa, you can live and work in Japan. But trust me, compared to getting an American green card it is absolutely a piece of cake!
