Get a job in Australia?

I'm interested in finding a job in Australia. My husband and I have been travelling and working in several places in Europe. Now we have children and are thinking of settling down somewhere nice but different.

My husband is British and I am Thai. I would like to know what should be our first step in moving to Australia. We are both chefs and have been working in Michelin star restaurants. I wonder if the demand for fine dinnig restaurant chefs is high or low there.

thank you

  1. Chefs with experience such as yours are in high demand in Australia. They are included in the skilled migration lists that the govt publishes to outline what kind of capabilities Australia is short in.

Check out the immigration site below regarding steps you need to take. Also check out job sites to see the kinds of jobs that are out there.

You may find success if you contact restaurants you'd like to work for, or recruitment agencies that specialise in hospitality, who can sponsor you or your husband and fast track the immigration process.

I've also listed the Good Food Guide for Melbourne, which gives brief descriptions of the top restaurants.

Good luck! You'll love working with Australian's wonderfully diverse and  quality produce!

  2. You would both be welcome in Au's, But I would not get here and then look for a job, e/mail good hotels with your details and see the responce.  Love to have you, good luck!
