ok so I live in Colum, ohio and I have had a car from a friend since nov of 07 and we had mad a agreement over the phone that I would buy the car from her, making payments, however she stated at first that I didnt need to start payments until she signed the title over to me. well in april the cars tags expired because she hadn't gotten it in my name. i got the title but i wanted it in my name b4 paying nething, it turned out to be the original copy meaning she had gotten another after the 1 she gave me had been lost and found, the 1 I have has been canceled. so I cant drive the car it has no tags or title and she has moved to WV out of state and I know in MD I can get something called a lean on the title file a notice in the paper for 30days and then if no response from the owner the courts grant me the owner. now thats in Maryland so Im not sure about Ohio. can anyone help me I need to be able to drive this car that has been sittin in my driveway since april 25, 2008

  1. TAKE ALL YOUR WRITTEN DOCUMENTATION TO THE STATE AND HOPE THEY BUY YOUR STORY AND IF THEY DON'T HOPE THEY HELP YOU LOCATE THE PREVIOUS OWNER

  2. you cant do anything at all. she could. you cant put a lien on it because she doesnt owe you anything. and she could because you technically have her property. the only way to do this is get ahold of her and get the title in your name that way. if you cant get ahold of her then try and get the bmv into this. theyll get ahold of the owner. no matter what state. theyll find her. but looks not so good for you.

  3. What a mess !   Best thing to do is to contact her and get it straighted out, if you can't locate her.  Contact your DMV....spell check
