Get acting experience without spending a lot of money?

Question

I want to try to be a main character/character in a role but the person had said that it is not an open cast which probably means you have to have some experience. How do I get some experience enough to be in a movie but not spend thousands of dollars for it. (I want to send in video resume for AVATAR Live Movie)

The judge said he will announce the invitation for the casting in this November so I got a couple of months.
