Get involved with Aegean Dawn at Ascot
There may come a time in the future when people look back at the Canaccord Genuity Handicap Hurdle and wonder why they didn’t back Aegean Dawn in a race where he is officially 24lbs clear on official ratings, off a mark of just 114.
The future looks incredibly bright for the Nicky Henderson-trained five-year-old, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him featuring heavily in the major hurdle races at the Festival next year. Today will be used as another education into the big wide world of racing, but considering the ease at which he won last week at Cheltenham (he escapes a penalty here), Henderson’s charge should still be too good for a bunch of well handicapped and well exposed, horses.
The price is nothing to get excited about, but for all you odds-on players out there, this could well be the banker of the season.
The opening race of Ascot’s card, the Redstone "National Hunt" Novices´ Hurdle, is probably the hottest race of the day, with all the big hitting yards seemingly having a crack at picking up the £8,000 prize money. On the basis of bumper form the Henderson trained Sprinter Sacre looks the one to beat, but hasn’t experienced the sticks just yet and may be one for future races. The one that gets the nod is Nigel Twiston Davies’ runner, Fracasti Park, who should make his experience count on his second run this season.
On the all-weather at Wolverhampton today old-boy Nanton can make a successful reappearance to the poly-track off a mark of 93 in the Wolverhampton Holiday Inn Handicap.
