  1. Practice and pick your game up a notch.

  2. Cheer loud at games you aren't playing in

Do your best and so much more at practice

    Pay attention all the time

    Practice at home

    Work out

    Show what you've got, but don't be a show-off

  3. I'd say. Do your best, be loud, have a good attitude, and play with everyone and anyone.

  4. Just keep at it. Never give up. He will see how much determination you have and you will be starting. and another reason is that its only your first year.. no one gets to start their first year.

  5. Well in  practices at my school all the setters get a chance to set to the hitters during practice at some point-- you need to shine there.

As a setter, you need to be a leader/coach on the floor. First off, you need  to stay positive. Then you need to let ppl know the play (if your school runs them). You also need to let people know where you are at, at all times. Try your hardest to get to every second ball, but if you know someone else is in a better position to play it make sure you call help in plenty of time for them to make the play. The coach WILL NOT like it if you don't get there, don't call help, and the ball drops.

Now, if you aren't getting any/much playing time you will have to show the coach that you are willing to work for that playing time.

Ask him/her for some drills that you can practice at home/on your own. AND/OR ask if you can stay late/come in early to work on setting (with his/her helping you). This makes you look like someone who wants to get better, and is willing to sacrifice time for it.

    other things....

try to wiin sprints in practice, dont talk when the coach is talking, cheer other players on, hustle to shag balls to get water, listen hard to directions, don't sit around and talk before practice, and don't talk/listen to people talk about the coach behind their back b/c if there is anyone who dislikes you or wants more playing time they WILL tell the coaches.

    good luck.

  6. as an athlete i would have to say that coaches look for players that are hard working and good leaders. at practice if you mess up don't let it phase you because everyone makes mistakes just get ready to do it again. get the coaches attention by helping other players that don't know what they are doing. don't worry though believe me your coach notices you. i hope this helps.

  7. give it your best try your hardest. be a leader. help out others. help the coach. like i sed do your best give it 110%.  do better then other in practise go to practise every day and on time.  surprise your coach do your best at everything you do

  8. its your first year, you have to step back a little and let the older players take a little glory for awhile. Continue to give it your all, be a great team mate and you will shine in time. You can't expect it all right away.
