Luis Garcia Plaza’s Getafe are enjoying a strong end to the season as they find themselves three points adrift of securing UEFA Europa League qualification.
Getafe hired Luis Garcia Plaza as their manager last year with his ability to make the most out of minimal resources. While his former side, Levante, are on course to qualify for UEFA Champions League, Plaza has worked miracles in his humble Madrid surroundings.
Los Azulones have accumulated 13 points from their last 8 matches, the fourth best in La Liga. Their improved form over the last couple of months has seen their ranking sour in the Primera Division table.
The outfit from the Spanish capital currently stands in 10th place, a paltry three points away from qualifying for the UEFA Europa League.
Reflecting on the situation, Luis Garcia Plaza remarked that it is their ambition to make it to the second tier European club competition.
Plaza admitted that it will be a difficult objective to achieve as there is a considerable competition and it will not be a letdown if they fail to see it through. Nevertheless, he promised that he is focused on the target alongside the players, and hopes
to make the fans proud.
"We have many teams ahead of us still and if we do not (make the Europa League) we will not be disappointed. But we will not lower our rate...it's a key game to keep the dream.”
"I am very happy and focused and the players are too."
Getafe take on the challenge of Joaquin Caparros’ Mallorca on Saturday, April 28. Ahead of the match, Plaza was welcomed with the news that Moroccan midfielder, Abdel Barrada, will be available for the match after passing the fitness tests.
"He suffered an injury but he soon recovered, he is ready to play. If he has been playing it is because I was very happy with those who were playing in his place."
With 2011/12 La Liga season entering its final stretch, Getafe need to record perfect results to overcome the challenge from other contenders vying for European places.
Luis Garcia’s men have fixture schedule on their side as they play three home games at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez out of the four remaining games.
