Getafe coach says Jose Antonio Reyes is dangerous player for Atletico Madrid
Getafe coach José Miguel Gonzalez Martín del Campo (‘Michel’) believes that Jose Antonio Reyes is as dangerous a player for Atletico Madrid as their more famed attackers Sergio Aguero and Diego Forlan.
With Aguero struggling to be fit in time for the game against Getafe in La Liga on Saturday, October 16, Atletico bosses are considering deploying the former Arsenal attacker in an advanced role.
Michel has claimed that Reyes is more than capable of causing problems for his team, with Atletico’s winger Simao Pedro Fonseca Sabrosa (‘Simao’) also being able to cause havoc for opposition defences.
He told Spanish daily newspaper AS, "There is much talk about Forlan and Aguero, and with good reason, but Reyes is a player who can make a difference. Simao is also a dangerous player, and Atletico were able to recover from a shocking start to
the league last year to win two titles. I have great respect for them."
Reyes joined Atletico in 2007 and helped them to win the UEFA Europa League last season. The 27-year-old has also won the English Premier League, FA Cup and FA Community Shield with Arsenal. He also lifted the La Liga title when he was on loan at Real Madrid
from the Gunners in the 2006-07 season.
Meanwhile, Saturday’s game will mark the 50th time that Michel has been in charge of Getafe and he is hoping to continue in the role for a long time.
“I hope that I can stay with Getafe. This team continues to grow, and I’m very comfortable here. If the president does not say otherwise, I would like to stay here for many years. I faced my first match with less pressure than I feel now. I feel that greater
responsibility comes with time.”
