A solitary goal from Andalusian youngster, Juanmi Jimenez, was enough to make manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-c23383 Pellegrini grin after Malaga CF’s Copa Del Rey first leg victory.
The Chilean tactician was happy with the result that will see his side play the return leg with an away goal advantage. However, he was upset with the proceedings on the pitch, which he described as bad for both teams; mentally and physically.
Pellegrini was critical of his team’s first half endeavours, calling the performance as their worst in the calendar year thus far.
Nevertheless, the former Real Madrid coach was content with the efforts of his charges in the second half. He stated that they improved after the restart, and made a comprehensive comparison of the whole match.
"Our first 45 were the lowest in the year, although much improved in the second half.”
The manager was clearly displeased with the lack of attacking football seen at Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
“The best part is the result, since the game was bad for both and very few arrivals in the area," Pellegrini remarked.
Regarding the Andalusian team’s preparations for the second leg, the coach expects an open game. He commented that they will look to win again, stating that the first leg's result would not be used an excuse for negative football.
"At home we have to win and not take refuge in the first leg result.”
Pellegrini was happy with defensive showings of his players, as Los Boquerones kept a clean sheet against an attacking side.
“It is always important to keep a clean sheet and we have done today. But two occasions of danger our goalkeeper did not have many interventions," he said.
Pellegrini was impressed by the performance of Juanmi, who is growing in stature with every passing game. The 18-year old was unplayable on the night, as he gave glimpses of his undoubted potential.
Juanmi has a bright future ahead of him, as he racks up first team experience. The youngster has already added 23 La Liga appearances under his belt despite his tender years as a budding footballer.
