  2. If you let him sleep too long too late in the day it will disturb his night time sleep. I always put my kids down for a morning nap around 10 am as they were early risers and woke up around 7 am. Then I put them down for another nap around 2 pm. They slept for around an hour and a half to 2 hours each time. When they were a year old we cut out the morning nap and just did the afternoon nap  for a couple of hours after lunch, that way they weren't cranky in the evenings but would go to bed at a decent hour. I loved nap time, it was when I got all my work done!

  3. Various experts will say that he will need around abouts 3 hours sleep in all during the day without impacting on night time sleep.  All I can tell you is what me and my baby do.  Up at 7 whether she's still asleep or not.  Feed.  Down at 9 am for about 45 mins.  Down at 12 for 1-2 hours.  If only one hour slept at lunch-time then down at 3pm for 45 mins-1 hr.  If 2 hours slept at lunch time then no need for any further naps.  As I said there are lots of experts to read - two are Gina Ford and Dana Obleman from the Sleep Sense Prog.

  4. it varies for each baby - my daughter slept 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon from the age of about 8 weeks (yes, i'm aware of how lucky that made me!!) but my friend's boy only has about 15-20 mins a time, 3-4 times a day. I'd say don't let him sleep more than 4-5 hours total during the day, but the length of each nap won't really matter!

    Good luck.

  5. HI UM forget anything you are reading so far cause I work in child development and A child should sleep After lunch and play which  is at 12 till 230 no matter if your child is still sleeping you should wake him. Plus no matter if he doesnt go to sleep or go to sleep fast the point here is that he layed down and rested. Try the classical music stations.

  6. Naps can be as long and as short as your child needs. It just depends on how much sleep he got and whether or not he is growing at a fast pace...also try doing your evening routine during the day, he might sleep thinking its bedtime...

  7. When my daughter was this age, our health nurse told me that it is very common for a baby to wake after only 20mins and that you should try to resettle them straight away. She said anything under an hour at this age should be resettled but my daughter would hardly ever go longer than 45 mins which is approx one sleep cycle (humans have sleep-wake cycles and for babies they hit a point of very light sleep and often wake up after 45 mins)

Hope that helps.... Your son sounds alot like my daughter at that age (both day and night sleeps) she now sleeps 13 hours straight most nights and has aroun 4 half an hour naps during the day. she is 6 months

Oh... with it effecting his night time sleep just experiement. At one stage my daughter started sleeping really badly of a night time and I found that if we both had a nap together from 3pm to 5pm (she will nap this long if we have a sleep together) then she would go to bed at 6:30 and actually sleep better over night.
