Getting Air in Skateboarding??

Question

When your vert skateboarding how do you get air out of a bowl or a halfpipe do you do an ollie at the top ? or do nothing?or what ?

It isn't really an ollie motion.  You got to make a pumping motion once you get to the top to get air.  I don't really know how to describe it.  I never skate vert.
