Question:

Getting DANCE TEAM COACH'S attention???????

At my school, if you want to even think about trying out for the dance team, you have to take dance as an elective. I just started the dance class today, but then I found out that the coach has to invite you to even try out for the team! How can I grab the coaches attention during class so she'll invite me to audition, and hopefully accept me onto the team? I don't want to be a suck up, but there are a lot of girls who are better than me in the class, but I'd like to atleast show her my potential. How can I do it?

  1. Come early to class and start stretching or practicing in the mirror, don't goof around too much during class...stay focused on what you're doing, smile and look like you're having fun, ask lots of questions about certain moves and choreography. Also, try asking the coach what you can do outside of class to improve on strength, flexibility, choreography, etc. As a former dance teacher, these were some of the things that showed me that a student really loved dance and was serious about her training and about improving and making progress. I'd rather have a girl who loved dance and was willing to work hard to improve, then one who just rested on her natural ability.

  2. Put yourself out there! :D try as hard as you can if the other girls are taking a break then sit down and strech work hard on streching at home too - show a good work work incenive and if that doesn't work then ask. ask her if you can audition or tell her your interested in trying out! ope you make it and good luck!

  3. ask them how to perfect a move in your routine, or if your forms right. then when they help you, start doing your routine.

  4. That's a really unfair policy! Everyone should be allowed to try out. I mean..wow. That's really, REALLY annoying.

Anyway, improve your splits! Stretch your legs with lunges, the butterfly as far down as you can, etc. Wear a skirt with shorts under it to practice. This way, if you're just okay at splits, the skirt hides the thighs so it looks like you're totally doing the splits 100%, even if it's totally not! This seriously works. When the coach looks over at you or is looking over at you, do those splits in your skirt with shorts under it combo.

Also, if you or someone you know owns jazz shoes, borrow them and wear them to the dance elective. This makes it look like you have a lot of experience.

If you're flexible or know gymnastics or how to do a double pirouette or fouette, use it to your advantage! Just show off what you've got and hide what you've..don't...and be really nice to the coach, try to make her notice you helping people out in the class, and be nice to everyone in the class.

    Hope I helped!!
