Question:

Getting/Get a tattooed/tattoo on my back across spine? More painful?

I'm thinking about a Koi fish design on my back from just above my lower back to just under my upper back (so in the middle, I may as well have said) and not taking up the sides too much except for some possible water curving around towards my shoulder blades to follow the shape of the back.

I was originally thinking about getting it somewhere on my upper arm but with it being on my back allows for me to hide it easier and for me to be more inventive with it cos it'd be going on a larger canvas. The problem is that I have a rather prominent spine (mostly around the middle cos my lower back is good and my upper back is pretty toned, it's just the middle that sucks :( ). I'm a skinny lad anyway but I still pack the muscle in most places, my back included only the spine is quite exposed. This has caused it to pick up quite a few scars and such over time so a tattoo would cover that nicely and would help with my insecurity about it. I'm wondering if this will make it A LOT more painful than on someone whose spine isn't so visible?

I also have some extensions to this question if you can be bothered ;D Help is very much appreciated!

  1. i have a rather large tattoo across my lower back and im telling you, when it was done over my spine, it hurt more then ANY OTHER tattoo i have ( i have 12)...ive never been in MORE excruitiating pain in my life and i LOVE getting inked PLUS, i have 3 daughters that i had with no pain meds and it hurt worse then that.

  2. It'll hurt more, yes. Anytime you go over bone, it will hurt. The more prominent, the more pain.

I really hope you aren't getting the generic koi fish tattoo I always see.

Faces the left, spikey waves crashing around it? Possibly the one with a lotus flower?

  3. Oh it's gonna hurt like h**l.  The back is such a beautiful place to get tattoos because of it's size and the general lack of stretching that goes on back there, but if you're boney, it'll kill haha.
