  1. Dwarf hamsters are the only same s*x hamsters that can be together. All others will kill each other when they reach sexual maturity.

  2. okay a teddy bear hamster would be the best choice they are calmer and more laid back than the others

and as first time owners you should have two seperate cages even if they are the same s*x because they will fight one will die and the dead one will get eaten if they are in the same cage so make sure there are to cages

oh and the person above me says robos don't fight nad eat each other they do all hamsters do because they are solitary animals

  3. Syrian Hamsters can not be put in pairs (or groups) because they could and most likely will fight and possibly

kill eachother. They are territorial animals.

But Dwarf Hamsters can be put in groups

and have to have at least one hamster friend.

  4. well. the easiest hamsters are syrians, but they MUST NOT be put together. but get syrians definetly if you want seperate cages.

try chinese hamsters from a breeder if you want one cage. from a breeder because their temper ranges from sweeet to hideous- ones from the breeder are generally sweeter, ones from petstores are mean.

  5. Teddy bear hamsters. But you can only get one because they do not like being around other hamsters after they are 4 weeks old. If you try petfinder.org you can find different kinds of hamsters that don't bite or nip because most hamsters have the tendency of doing that. Syrian or teddy bear hamsters are very territorial so if you are going to get two, don't go with them. If your brothers are 8 and up, you can get dwarf hamsters. (On a sign at Petsmart) But they bite so you'll have to get them use to the human touch and tame them. Always get same s*x. Male hamsters may sometimes fight and have very strong urine. Male and female will have lots of babies. I suggest two females.

  6. You should get roborovski hamsters and buy a crittertrail 2. In the wild robo's are kept in pairs so it is better to buy them in pairs like 2 boys. They are the smallest and fastes with syrians you can only buy one because they will fight your choice really!!!

    Good luck!

  7. allright well hamsters are fun an cute an fuzzy but all of them can bite when hostile or frightened teddy bear hamsters are really cute =D never get two males they will fight ! two females could work ! when i owned hamsters i had male/female ones because my dad used to breed them but that was years ago i wish i still lived with him cuz i would have been able to tell you so much about them as my dad is the exspert when you go to the pet store there are more qualified employees that can direct you to the best type and pair of hamsters that would be best for you to take home as your pet .. have fun hamsters are a really neat choice buy them alot of tunnels for there cage lolz =D

  8. i had a dwarf hamster for a year and i decided to by another dwarf hamster . . .

a year later. they fought and i had to seperate them and one bit me and i started bleeding. even if you by them in the same litter they fight too. after my hasters died . . .

i bought some from petco they are cheaper, but there mean.

i bought them from the same litter too. they fought and i came home one day and one was dead. dont by them from petco they are rabied up. by from petsmart!!!

  9. Syrian hamsters (teddy bear, fancy, black bear, golden etc.)are considered the most friendliest and easy to tame ones among along hamsters, however they are solitary animals and must be kept one to a cage otherwise they can have vicious fights and even kill each other. Since they are easier to handle and tame, first time hamster owners and family with children prefer to have them as pets.

Dwarfs (winter white, robos, chinese, campbells etc) can be kept in same s*x pairs. However dwarfs from the same litter are better at coexisting in one cage than from different litters. Also dwarfs are equally friendly as syrians but take some more time to tame and become friendly. Also dwarfs have to be handled atleast once a weak or they become untame unlike syrians who can be tame for life. All four dwarf breeds exhibit similar behavior so you can choose any of them.

However the choice between syrians and dwarfs is yours to make since you have to decide which is best for your brothers based on the behavioral characteristics differences between them that I have mentioned above.

    Hope this helps!!!!

ADDED ON - yeah even female syrians have to be separated. They are very solitary and territorial. You might see syrians together in one cage in pet shops but they coexist because they are still young. The adults (whether male ot female) can have terrible fights!
