I am going to get a job at McDonald's. I am 15. I have a 3.89 GPA and have had a yr of cash register experince at my old job. And in my state, WV, 15 yr olds can only work 3hrs/day when school is in session but 8hrs/day during summer. My first question is does McDonald's have 3hr shift, if not do they have the 15yr olds work longer w/out the state finding out? If I list all the info about me I gave above on my application, would I be able to start out on the register up front or the drive-thru? Is the trainig process hard?

Thanks so much

  1. it all depends on the place and if they are even hiring people. I suggest you wait a year because from what i know 16 year olds can really work real jobs. Also from wha tmy friends tell me, working at mcdonalds is h**l.

  2. I work at a McDonald's currently as a Crew Leader and I am also the Crew Trainer for the entire store so hopefully I can help you.  My McDonald's does have a 3 hour shift, which is 4-7, because that is all that the PA law will allow, so I am assuming you are the same. Occasionally my store will clock people out to abide by the law and then clock them in for missed hours when they are not there. However this is rare and we usually just follow the rules.

As for training, we start people in the drive thru, taking orders and cash with someone else, just until they get used to everything. After that, most people seam either stay in drive thru or front counter, but that is not official.

The training process is very easy, after you sign some papers and get a tour, you are put on a register with someone else, (me in my store) and you kind of learn by watching them, and push the buttons and talk, while we direct you and tell you what to push.

    Hope this helps!

  3. Mcdonald's Absolutly has 3hr shifts just for that purpose, thats the whole point of FLEXIBLE scheduling. I am a manager at my local McDonalds and i can assure you they will work around you being in school, education is always on the front burner with them.

And to answer your second question, they would probably start you out working the front counter, it is a little bit easier and they can train you more effeciently out front.

    I hope this helps

  4. Depends on the particular MCDonalds if they have a 3rd shift or not. Some are open all of the time, some are not.

And don't cheat. The state will find out eventually. If you suggest on your application that you are dishonest, then they probably won't hire you.

  5. I worked at burger king during high school and I worked 3 hr shifts.  4-7 on weekdays.   We don't have a law like that though.  on weekends i worked 8 hr shifts
