Question:

Getting My Nose Pierced? Question!?

by  |  earlier

So, my mom said I could get my noise pierced now that I'm in high school, but I need some help.

I have to swim first thing in the morning, for first period. It takes a while to heal before you can go in water, right?

Should I wait until swimming is over to get it pierced? Or is there a way to protect it.

Any advice or suggestions?

Thanks!

  1. Well yes it takes a while to heal (about 5 weeks),I got mine pierce lately and was in the water swimmin the same day and nothin happened. Sea salt and chlorine may accelerate healing, but the bacteria and pollution in water do not. If possible, avoid swimming for the first few weeks of a new piercing, and always clean your piercing when you get out of the water (EarCare or saline comes in handy here). Public pools, lakes and hot tubs are especially nasty germ breeding zones. If you must swim during healing, consider using a water-tight wound covering such as Tegaderm or Clean Seals, available at your pharmacy

One thing i would like to tell you dont pierce it with the back on (if its a shoot in). The ring eventually gets tight durin the process of the nose swelling (mine got so tight the the ring sank into my nose, dont be alarm)... Keep cleanin it with hot salt water (to keep it clean) and dont take it out alot...

Just wanted u to know, and if you knew srry for information u already knew. I just dont want you goin through the same thing i went through.

       Good Luck!!!!

  2. well it doesn't really matter..you can protect it sort of it you put a water proof band-aid over it..but make sure you clean it AS SOON as your finished swimming in case anything ended up getting in it, specially in chlorine because it will dry it out...its probably better to wait until swimming's over but, you can use the band-aid...I just got mine done last thursday,..and I wore a band-aid over mine and it was fine..

remember WATER PROOF band-aid not just a normal one :)

  3. So...the official answer is that you should wait 6 weeks for a nose piercing before you go swimming.  Chemicals or bacteria from the pool could upset the piercing.  Key phrase being could...

However, you would probably be fine as long as your immune system stays healthy and you keep the piercing clean.

They have to tell you that stuff - its a liability for them if they don't warn you.

  4. Personally, I would wait until you have a break from swimming before you get your nose pierced. I say this because I know that nose piercing can be fairly troublesome for the first few days to weeks, if not looked after properly. That being said, if you are swimming in water with a lot of other people ( even if they're not in there at the same time as you, someone else has been in that pool) the pool will have bacteria in it, which can get in a fresh piercing, chlorine can also annoying piercings. May I suggest waiting until you are on break for Christmas to get your nose pierced?  I know it is still a fair way away, but you will be much happier with a nose piercing that is happy and healthy, opposed to a angry, infected nose ( which trust me, it is not fun to have a boil under the ring bust shooting blood and pus all over your face). Happy Piercing.
