Question:

Getting Orange home phone and broadband on existing BT line?

We are moving into a new flat and want to get both or home phone and broadband through Orange (Orange home max option) as this is cheaper than keeping the phone line with BT.

Will Orange need the BT phone number of the flat or is it enough that there is a phone line set up in the flat even if this was desactivated by previous tenants?

Reason I'm asking is because we're in a hurry to get everything up and running. If we have to ask BT to reconnect the line of the flat before we can contact Orange this will add additional days.

Has anyone got any experience of this? Any tips ?

Many thanks in advance

  1. Your words.....'in a hurry' worry me. a line can be switched on within minutes if service has been there before and a connection at the exchange still exist(just because you have a socket does not always mean this). Finally BB always takes 5 working days with any service provider and that is if everything goes to plan. Get onto your choosen company quick.....

  2. you need a bt line for your broadband and your free phone, but check if you can change your land line supplier, phone other phone companies to ask if they can connect to your new flat, the connection price  will be cancelled if you are going to Bt, but haggle with bt

  3. Yes you will have too get the phone line re-activated, and BT will hit you with a contract, so you won't be able to switch suppliers until the end of the contract, or if you do BT will still charge you the rental until the contract termination date.

  4. If the line was in service then you are on a winner, call BT on 0800 800 150 and give them the number they will quote 24 hours but in reality it more like 24 minutes for the line to start working, you can then transfer it to who ever you like. I'm not 100% but I think BT will charge for the 1st 3 months of rental.

Hope this helps and good luck with the move.
