Question:

Getting Organized for High School?

Hi. I'm going to be a freshman and I have some questions.

First of all, I'm wondering if having 3 1.5 inch binders for 5 subjects will work out well. When I bought them I thought it would be smart to do it according to my schedule, like if I have French then math then english then science, have one for french and math, the other for english and science. So I can put one binder in my locker at lunch. But I don't know if I'll have enough room in each binder. Do you think I should get 5 1 inch binders?

Secondly, I'm wondering what the best method for keeping track of homework is. I was debating between having a section in each binder for homework, and just writing it down in order of when it's due, or getting a planner and writing down assignments there.

I'm also wondering what sort of bags girls usually carry? I got a messenger bag, but was thinking of using a tote bag instead. I don't want it to be too bulky.

Thanks for the help.

any unrelated tips for highscool are welcome, too.

  1. Okay, well first about the binders, as long as your organized what you have will work. I have one binder for all 6 of my classes and it works. Just buy a hole puncher and hole punch the papers that the teachers forget to hole punch. Also on Fridays, if you get a lot of papers, it would be a smart idea to take out the papers you don't think you will have to use again and store them in a box of some sort. Just don't throw them out until the end of the semester just in case!!

For me the best method for keeping track of homework is a planner, that way that I can see everything that I have to do that night.

I'm a girl and last year I had a backpack, but this year I got a tote bag, just makes sure that it's big enough to hold your binder and your books. Also make sure it's durable enough too. I'm not sure about your high school, but at my high school all the girls use totes. A messenger bag would work too though!!

    Additional tips:

+ Stay organized!!! That was my biggest problem last year, but this year I'm determined to be organized. Keep you locker, your desk, your book bag, and your binder organized.

+ Also don't forget to write assignments in your planner. It's a good idea to write the assignment as soon as the teacher assigns it.

+ Another thing is to have the phone number to at least one person in your class that way you can call them to talk about question on your homework.

+ Join extracurricular activities and clubs so you can make friends, but remember not to overschedule yourself (I also have a problem with this!!!)

+  Also don't be scared of upperclassman, there not scary. Some will be jerks, because they think they're so big and bad, but trust me...there not!!!

    Good luck in High School

    and remember to have fun!!!!

    =)

  2. My personal preference was to have the thinnest possible style binder, one for each class, so I could take one or more with me, depending on whether I had homework overnight on some but not all. If it starts getting too full, I take some out and leave it at home. For assignments, it was easier to keep track of them all in one place, preferably a small planner.

In terms of other things to have -- markers, post-its, calculator, pens, pencils, eraser. I guess you know this stuff.

On the type of bag, it's been too long since I was in high school for me to really help you with what's cool. I was a backpack person myself.

    Hope this helps. Good luck.

  3. Well, I personally like 1 binder for each class. With this 1 inch binder for each class you can stay organised. For homework, our school gives out planners and I higly recomend them. Have a good year! Freshmen year is the easiest academically. Have fun, make freinds and have a nice system between friends, homework, and other activities.

    Have a good year!

  4. -1.5 inch binders would fill up way to fast, if i were you i would just buy one 2 inch or a 2.5 inch binder and get dividers for each subject.

-for homework i would get a folder for each subject and put the assignments in there, and maybe get some sticky notes to write down due dates.

-Tote. However i would just get a cute backpack like roxy or O'Neill or billabong...
