Question:

Getting Permanent Residency?

My son is wanting to join the Australian Defence Force and has passed the first part of the application, but - we need to get permanent residency before they can proceed further. We are NZ citizens arriving in Australia 2004, owning our own house and residing here. I need to know what we need to do or where we go to get this done urgently. There seem to be lots on citizenship but nothing detailed enough explaining Permanent residency for NZ'rs, we know the law changed on 2001

  1. What visa are you on now ?

I did see this: New Zealand citizens who are Special Category Visa (subclass 444) holders and any accompanying secondary applicants will be eligible to apply for and be granted an offshore General Skilled Migration visa while they are in Australia.

  2. Hi, am ex-kiwi,have been living here 20yrs

just done citizenship test, they mentioned something about permanent residency being automatically granted if you moved here before a certain date.

Best bet would be to call Gov. Dept of Citizenship and get info straight from them, they have the correct answers

    good luck...
