Getting To Know the Real Robert Kubica
He’s the first Polish racer to have made it into Formula One. He’s led the charge for Renault and BMW Sauber; in his five seasons on the Formula One circuit, Kubica has bagged one win, 11 podium positions and a 226 championship points. Many pundits believe the talented Pole can one day become the world champion. Speaking to the official Formula One website as part of its on-going Secret Life series, Robert Kubica made some interesting revelations about his life away from the gird.
Kubica revealed that he was not the sort of person who had a plan B. Instead, the Pole said, he almost always relied on his plans working out smoothly, or at least not disintegrating completely. When asked about his favourite activity other than Formula One racing, Kubica said rallying was about the only other distraction he was truly passionate about.
Kubica picked his race engineer as the person he most looked forward to meeting when he reached the paddock on a race week. The Pole said his engineer updated him about the extraordinary upgrades that were being regularly incorporated into his car, a lesson Kubica predictably found to be very interesting.
Kubica was reluctant to pin point a single personality he would really want to meet up with, saying there were many sportsman and women he was interested in knowing better. As a young child, Kubica said, he had been inspired by a kart racer named Daniel Rossi. The Central European further revealed he was not very much into Hollywood-style idol worship.
It was learnt that the Formula One tough guy wasn’t a cry baby at all; Kubica disclosed he couldn’t remember crying over a movie ever. In fact, the Pole divulged he wasn’t very much into movies and barely ever sat through a film from start till end.
Formula One’s Polish representative revealed his fear of deep waters, saying he had rather not find himself in the middle of the sea. Helicopters were another thing that made the Renault protagonist uncomfortable. When questioned about the last piece of literature he had come across, Kubica said his most recent read had been the book Gomorrah.
It was found that Kubica was not really the outgoing sort, for his most favoured way of relaxing involved lazing in front of his TV set at home. Amongst the things that really got to the Formula One star’s nerves were unreliable cars, unpunctual people, traffic jams and, interestingly, milk and butter.
Kubica was adamant he would never consider dying his hair, nor had he ever resorted to the tactic before. He also assured fans he wouldn’t be found getting himself a tattoo or a piercing.
When asked about the first CD he had purchased, the Pole wasn’t sure. However, he said, it had most probably a tape that had been his first buy, for his parents had once run a tape manufacturing enterprise.
Although it did not become clear if Kubica had been a reluctant student, he said the main issue was that his teachers barely got to know him as he was never at school for long enough. The Pole said his school days had been marked by long absences from the classroom as he was often away travelling to Kart races. The Central European revealed that although in the beginning he strove to make up for the lost time in school, racing soon became his primary focus.
Kubica said his racing career had been kick-started with the purchase of his very first vehicle when he was just four and a half years of age. The Pole said his parents had got him the mini jeep with which he had immediately fallen in love with.
It was also discovered Kubica was no slouch at cooking either. The Pole said he used to cook for himself regularly when he was a kart racer. In fact, Kubica remarked that the barbeque he prepared tasted much better than what one would normally get from a restaurant.
