  1. You definitely want a demo, if you can't afford the studio then talk to the sound guy at your next gig about recording you live. This will work until you can afford a better quality demo.

Now getting signed with a label anymore, you need to show some semblance of success. They don't just want good music to package they want artists who have packaged themselves in the past. This is not to say that if your music is the best thing in 22 galaxies and makes the person listening to it just think WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that they won't contact you because they prob will.

When sending your demo out though you want to have your band name, web url, and contact info on the cd and listed seperately on paper in your promo kit. You also want to be sure that you have a contact name for where you are sending your demo. This is so that you can check back about 1-3 weeks later. ALWAYS! check back! It is so easy for promo kits to get lost in all the submissions and or different parts on different peoples desks. So checking back lets them know you are serious and reminds them to gather all those parts of your promo kit together to look at again.

  2. Do you have a demo first of all? You need to have this first and make a few copies to hand out to potential agent.

The cost is roughly $50 an hour to record a demo all inclusive.

    Look into that first.
