Getting a New Birth Certificate In Australia?

My parents lost my Original Birth Certificate. I do however have the extract, how do I go about getting a new one? And how much would it cost?

  1. births deaths and marriages website and download the form or you can go to your local court house to apply, i think its about $28.00 the number on your extract will be helpful for locating your certificate.

  3. You need to apply to the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages in your birth State. You must produce original (not copied) Proof Of Identity documents e.g. Driver's License or Passport; Medicare Card or Credit Card; and Utility bill, Rates Notice or Bank Statement (1 of each). If you are under 18 the POI requirements are different.

    See the following website for details about obtaining a Victorian Birth Certificate (it will be much the same in other states). It is not possible to mail POI documents, they must be presented in person.

    Birth Certificates can be supplied over the counter if you can attend in person. Online and mail applications take around 5 working days. Cost of a full Birth Certificate is $25.80.

    I'm not sure how you make an online or mail application when the POI documents must be presented in person!!!
