  1. Its a pretty new rule. All residential letting need to be registered with the PRTB (Private Residential Tenancies Board). The form you and the Landlord need to fill in asks for your PPS No and the Landlord's PPS No.

The 'out clause' here is that the Tenant needs to disclose their PPS unless it can not be ascertained by reasonable enquiry. - You can't ascertain it if you don't have one.

The landlord has a month to return the form - by which time you will have your number anyway.

    Enjoy you stay.

  2. You dont need  a pps to rent a house.. u probly wont get a pps til ur lving in the country cos i moved to the uk and couldnt get one til i had a permanent address.. its a very slow process.. good luck

  3. Ditto, I've lived in Ireland most of my life and never needed a PPS number to get a house or a bank account.

Look on daft.ie for other accommodation.

  4. Sarah,

Do you work if so then estates agent's should not ask for your PPS number thats only if your on benefit(s)

  5. you need a PPS number to rent a house??? i have rented flats, apartments, bedsits and houses over the last few years in a number of towns while attending college and university and i never needed a PPS number

  6. Ive never heard of having to have a PPS num to rent a house??? Id say check another agency or try the papers for a hse

  7. Are you sure that you have it right I moved from Scotland to Ireland two years ago, I did not need a pps number to rent a house.

When I moved again recently my current landlord did not ask me for my pps number just the rent and deposit.

  8. i agree- i am a us citizen and was able to rent a room without a pps number at all. getting a bank account was impossible without the pps, but i think maybe the landlord you're dealing with is enforcing his/her own rules. i'm guessing you're looking for places online, but you'll have as much or more luck simply looking in person. my advice- book yourself into a cheap hostel, or one with a weekly rate and hit the classifieds.

usit on (i think) woodquay- it's next to the o'connell bridge and across from the heineken building (you'll know what i mean when you're looking at it) is a good resource for housing and housing questions.

  9. You do need a PPS number now to rent a flat, if you landlord is going by the book. You will find many that aren't, but also, if you let them know what teh problem is, most of them will wait until you have your number before they register you as a new tenant. My ladlord didn't register me in this flat for about 6 months. Don't worry about it.

If you really want to sort it out before you come over, you could always give the address of a friend, if you ahve any over here, as your own address, in order to get your number first.

  10. don't need pps number
