i'm buying a baby BD and she's about 7 wks

she comes with a 2ft tank, with lights food and other stuff,

I know to keep the light on for 12 hrs in the day but at night do i put the re light on ? it comes with a white light (head light I think ) and a red one - in the pet shop they just have both one at the same time.

and they use sand - i looked on the net and it says dont use sand for babys

any good tips - i just keep rodents so need to know more

  1. I would probably suggest getting reptile carpet, I wouldn't suggest getting sand for it just yet anyway.

  2. ya i recommend that you don't get the heat mats or sand. heat mats could burn their bellies. and when sand is ingested it could cause intestinal blockage which could kill your baby.(the cage liner or any type of paper works good) i feed mine a mix of kale, apples, squash, carrots, and mangos when i have some but you can look it up and it will have a whole list of stuff they can eat (nothing with the word lettuce in it!)

yes your right at night put red light on, and make sure you have the uvb light they need it to digest calcium.

they like it when they have a place to hide so make sure you get something like that.

Well good luck with the baby

  3. You can use wood chips for babies, aww bless beardies are sooo cute. My sis had a mating pair so she had babies all the time.

Turn the lights off at night, but if you are worried, you could put a heat pad under one section of the tank so if they do get cold, they can sit on that. Also do not feed them too many crickets near the time when you are turning off the light. Crickets can gang up on the babies and eat them in their sleep, better off feeding them morning and late afternoon.

  4. i recommend not getting a heat mat cause they can wait for their back to heat up on the mat and end up cooking their stomach and insides and it will die also its fine to keep babe bearded dragons on sand just make sure it doesn't bury it self

  5. keep it on paper towels until it is bigger. feed it crickets, fruits (bananas, strawberries), and vegetables (carrots, yellow squash, lettuce). i don't use a light at night, just don't let it drop below 75 degrees. a heat pad is good for keeping him warm at night, just put it under his shelter. during the day its between 85-90 degrees in my set up. hes going to outgrow that tank so be sure you make arrangements for a larger one when the time comes.

  6. no lights at night some pet shops will tell u those red lights keep heat and don't bother them when in fact its proven those red lights can effect beardies eyes and they can see the light. if your worried about temps getting to low at night u can get a ceramic heat emitter which puts out no light just heat.also yes don't use sand for babies as they l**k everything and l*****g sand means ingesting it and it can clump and get hard in their stomachs and can end up in death and other not so fun or cheap fixes
